Today, the thrilling collaborational science fiction CD, AIKA was released in the Finnish internet music store The Ground and the German internet music store synSONIQ Records! AIKA is a short story written by Tom Jubert and illustrated by Tuija Fagerlund. Around the story, project leader and lead composer Mikko Tarmia (Penumbra-series, Rally Shift), with the help of fellow composers Paul Houseman (Desolation Angels, Girl Friday, Missive), Ari Pulkkinen (Shadowgrounds, Super Stardust HD) and Michael Law, has created a deep and multileveled sci-fi score combining orchestral and digital elements.

October 9th 2008

During the summer, with the priceless help of music editor and mixer Tuomas Järvensivu, Michael composed, edited and mixed the score for the summer rockabilly film "Fat Rat Jacket" directed by Hanna Hurri. The whole rockabilly score featuring live electric guitars played by Timo Järvensivu has been uploaded to the site. You can listen to the score here. More information about the film's premiere and marketing will be informed later.

Michael has also jumped in to the short film project "Ennustus" written and directed by Anna Kaisa "Niisku" Haapala and produced by Pauli Kopu, Pekka Ollula and Vilja Byström. The trailer featuring Michael's original music can be viewed in Youtube from this link.

The Sound of Fiction, a new independent record label from award winning video game composer Mikko Tarmia, announced 'AIKA', an atmospheric orchestral soundtrack, narrative and graphics project. AIKA is an atmospheric orchestral soundtrack wrapped around a philosophically inspired science fiction story written by Tom Jubert. Its scenes are described by the moody music composed by Mikko Tarmia, Paul Houseman, Michael Law and Ari Pulkkinen. Lavish illustrations, created by Tuija Fagerlund, will accompany the music and story. Visit the AIKA website for more detailed information! In addition, Michael has been a part of the writing team, starred as the lead actor and composed an original score for the short film "Yhteys." The film is produced by Minna Korhonen and directed by Markus Aaltonen. You can listen to the score in the music-page or directly from here.

Finally, those of you who are waiting for short thriller Piilo's score, you'll have to wait some more. Michael's and the director's visions were different from the music and Michael has to compose almost the whole score again. During the summer, Michael was able to finish the score for the rockabilly film "Fat Rat Jacket." The score will be uploaded here as soon as the film is announced officially.

It is going to be a busy summer for Michael. Michael plays a siderole in the theatre play "Kalliolle kukkulalle" in Pyynikin kesäteatteri (The Pyynikki summer theatre) in Tampere, Finland. Michael plays the role of Gwyr Öyvningsjöld, a Norwegian brain-eating bloodbathing heavy star.

"Kalliolle kukkulalle" stars actors like Pekka Laiho (Uudisraivaajat, Kylmäverisesti sinun), Juhani Laitala (Puhtaat valkeat lakanat, Sydänten Akatemia), Juha Laitila (Kulkuri ja joutsen, Huuliveikot) and Eija Vilpas (Hynttyyt yhteen, Pelon maantiede). The play is written by the famous duo Heikki Vihinen and Timo Kahilainen (Kummeli films) and is directed by Tiina Puumalainen (Viivi ja Wagner, Takapirut).

In addition, Michael works with three films this summer. Michael composes music for the thriller "Piilo" as well as a rockabilly score for the summer rock n' roll film "Rotsi." Michael also works as a sound designer in the film "Matkalaukkulapsi." Recently, Michael composed the score for a short documentary "Muuten minua ei olisi." The documentary is written and directed by Emmi-Sofia Markkanen.

Michael has been kept busy during the last weeks!

First, Michael has helped the boys of Energia Productions (Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning) in promoting their new film, Iron Sky! Michael composed a majestic theme for the film's promotional campaigne in this year's Film Festival of Cannes! You can listen to the theme from this link! Second, Michael has signed in for an exciting project, the short film "Piilo". The film is a dark thriller version of "Home Alone". It is written and directed by Aleksi Närvä and features Finnish stars Jorma Tommila (Bad Luck Love, Vares, The Year of the Wolf) and Jarkko Lahti (Pelkkää lihaa, Kolmistaan)! Michael has also composed music and mixed the sound for the film's trailer. It will be available on Piilo's webpage! at the end of May! The score for "Piilo" will be complete during summer. It will be fully downloadable from this site!

Third, Michael has composed music for an antipiratism commercial called "Save Our Babies", directed by Tapani Hiedanniemi!

Finally, Michael has composed music and mixed the sound for a Finnish web commercial for the security company Deferon. The commercial was created by Pakastin Uusmediatuotanto!

 

April 27th 2008

Recently, Michael worked as a sound designer and composer for the short film "Sideline." The film is written and directed by Maria Kaurismäki! The story follows a student girl played by Krista Kosonen (The Year of the Wolf, Jade Warrior), whose dark decision will change her life. The film will premiere at the Tampere Art Factory on May 10th!

Michael has sung background vocals and played djembe drum to his good friend's new Finnish pop/rock album! A couple of tracks from Pauli Hausmann's debut album "Helsinki Express" can be heard in Pauli's Myspace page. Go hear them out!

Additionally, Michael has recorded a radio promotion song of the theatre piece "Hugo Simbergin Siivet" written and directed by Ville Kurki and produced by Petri Uusitalo, Anna Savisaari and Timo Vierimaa. The play runs at Theatre Telakka at Tampere, Finland.

 

March 12th 2008

Michael has done all the sound and music work for a new student production of TAMK University of Applied Sciences' School of Art and Media! "Rikas Rakas Köyhä Rakas" is a film noir short film / internet game written and directed by Maiju Laitinen and produced by Pekka Ollula and Iida Höckert! Visit the site http://www.murhamysteeri.net to live the experience! First you watch the first half of the short film, then you as a detective solve the case and unlock the second half of the film to see how the murder happened! The experience is in Finnish language only. The film has its premiere in Tampere 17th of March and the site opens soon after!

The full scores of the film and the game composed by Michael have been uploaded to the site! The score contains around 36 minutes of music! You can download the score here!

 

 

In addition, Michael has participated in the Tampere Film Festival 2008 as a sound engineer! "It was a great experience to see how the merge of west and east happened in terms of film tradition here in Finland!"
Also, this year Michael has continued his job as a composer / sound designer and dialogue editor in Context Learning Finland. This year Michael has created sound and music for example for the City of Helsinki Rescue Department and Neste Oil!
As you can see, the music site has also changed as an easier and quicker version, where you can listen to different musical styles as demo reels!
