"The Ridge" Original Score Track 1 Opening, Prisoner's Words ©2004 Moonlite Productions 1.37 The opening titles and the first scene of the film. A German prisoner says something that corporal Tak Wantabe won't forget. Track 2 Smith's Death ©2004 Moonlite Productions 0.42 Tak's best friend dies in combat. That is a sad loss for his friends. After the death the young soldiers start to realise the brutality of war. Track 3 It's Our Turn ©2004 Moonlite Productions 1.52 The preparation for the final battle of Vimy Ridge. CPL Wantabe writes to his wife. That will be the last letter of him. Track 4 The Other Side ©2004 Moonlite Productions 2.28 In an intense combat, Tak gets shot. The camera fades to his house. Pictures of him and his wife are on the table as well as all the letters to his wife and the final letter, where someone of a higher rank has written his sorries for the loss. The war is over and the honor of Canada has been written in the history books for an eternity. Track 5 End Credits ©2004 Moonlite Productions 2.00 I'm happy with the result of the end credits theme. Here I used woodwinds as lead instruments. |
"The Ridge" is a patriotic short film by Glen Chua and Moonlite Productions telling the story of the heroism of the Canadians in the battle for Vimy Ridge during WW1. In this score I tried to get the same feeling that Michael Kamen (peace to his soul) got in the score for "Band of Brothers". It is a sad but still patriotic score, which fits perfectly in the series. With my score I tried to remain minimalistic in certain scenes by using subtle strings and a piano, but in the strong scenes I added a powerful choir in the background. "The Ridge" got the recognition of the City Hall of Surrey BC after the ceremony / premiere, where war veterans among other people saw the film. Congratulations to Glen and his team once again!
